Maya Songbird Releases Space Cadet Bachelorette on Ratskin Records
An interstellar disco ritual celebrating queer Black femme power
Maya Songbird, the Bay Area’s legendary electro-soul alchemist, releases her third full-length album, Space Cadet Bachelorette, today via Ratskin Records. This project is Maya’s most fully-realized vision to date—a cosmic, dancefloor-ready manifesto blending experimental soul, dark disco, and ritualistic synth-funk.
Space Cadet Bachelorette is available now digitally and in limited physical editions on CD and high-bias chrome cassette via Bandcamp.
Spanning eight powerful tracks, the album moves between gritty sensuality, introspective futurism, and pure, unfiltered movement. From the bold, industrial bounce of lead single “Debauchery” to the hypnotic slow burn of “The Wrapture”, Maya’s voice acts as both narrator and spellcaster—guiding listeners through a galaxy where liberation, desire, and defiance collide on the dancefloor.
“This album is a love letter to my queer femme ancestors and space bachelorettes everywhere,” says Maya Songbird. “It’s dark, but celebratory—shame-free disco for the weirdos, witches, and wounded who still want to dance.”
The record builds upon Maya’s previous explorations in Queen of Darkness and Welcome to the Darkside, completing a thematic trilogy. However, Space Cadet Bachelorette is no epilogue—it’s a rebirth. Entirely written, recorded, and performed by Maya herself, the album also marks her most DIY and sonically ambitious project yet.
